I am currently a seminarian at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and will begin my third year of studies in August as an intern at New City Parish in Los Angeles. Ministry Background: I have been a ‘Lutheran’ since the second grade and my upbringing in the church as well as my life experiences have played important roles as my ‘ministry background.’ The time spent training to be and later serving as a Stephen Minister has contributed to my ministry today as a lay leader. The two years I spent at Cal Lu were without a doubt a significant addition to my growing ‘ministry background.’ As a seminarian in preparation for ordained ministry, I am exploring at a deeper level how I am to serve God’s people in the world today. It is an exciting time to be a witness to all the God has done for us! My Family: I am the oldest of four siblings in my family of origin. In my nuclear family I am the proud (and relieved) mother of two adult children. My son, Robert, lives nearby and my daughter, Kimberly, now resides in New York City. I started working at CELC: In June of 2007, left to attend seminary in the Fall of 2008 and I am now serving as the interim Coordinator of Visitation for the summer. My role at CELC: My primary role is to visit and connect the community of faith through Christ and the sacrament of Holy Communion to those who are unable to attend worship or other church activities. Most are home bound or in assisted living, others are hospitalized or temporarily in rehab facilities. Whether it is illness or injury or the challenge of losses due to aging or facing the closing stages of their earthly journey, I find my role is to ‘be present’ with them. Most fulfilling part of my job: I am honored to bring the holy meal, offer Christ’s message of hope, and prayerfully quiet the fears of those I visit. Spiritual Gifts: I have been blessed with ears that can listen, hands and a mind that can pray, and a heart of compassion for all of God’s creation.
