Sanctuary

… And everything lives where the river goes.
                                                                   Ezekiel 47:9

Christ Lutheran Church has been going through a revisioning process that included a renovation of the Sanctuary in 2000. The inspiration for the new Sanctuary space is Ezekiel 47 which paints a beautiful picture for us to consider.
God brings the prophet into the Temple.  There in that holy space water begins to flow from under the threshold of the altar into the community.  The waters rise and continue until they reach the stagnant sea.  These lifeless pools are turned into fresh drinkable water.  An abundance of living things springs up along this river of life.
This water of life is the grace of God which flows from the holy center of our hearts into a life of service for our neighbors.  God fills us and sends us as a river of people into a thirsty world.  By this river we return to be nourished ourselves.  We drink deeply from the true source of love and life.
This is the vision for our mission in Pacific Beach.  We come to be healed, to be refreshed, and then we are sent out to proclaim the love of God in Christ in word and deed.

The glass mosaic at the front of the worship space is by well-known artist David Hetland who has captured the essence of vibrantly living plants and animals nourished by the river of life which flows from the Cross.  The river runs under the Table, past the Ambo, around the Baptismal Font (all by artist Timothy Bergren), pass the lead glass panels in the narthex and out to the outside world.  Please feel free to inspect the mosaic.
