Musical Mosaics

David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the Lord with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals.”

2 Samuel 6:5  NRST

Music is an integral part of worship in the life of our mission partners at Christ Lutheran Church. Like David and the house of Israel, we desire to honor our Creator with “all our might” through song, dance, and the playing of musical instruments. We create Musical Mosaics!

Chancel Choir
This is the main choir for worship services at Christ Lutheran. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. in the choir room. We also meet at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning to rehearse before worship. We would love to have you be a part of our choral family. We sing from September through Pentecost Sunday. We typically present a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert. We often partner for these concerts with St. Brigid’s Catholic Church Choir.

Reigning Bells of Christ Lutheran
Our handbell choir has “risen indeed!” After many years of neglect, our 5-octave set of handbells has been tuned and regulated. 2008-09 was our first year to play after a long hiatus. We named ourselves Reigning Bells of Christ Lutheran and we really would love to have you ring. So, if you can read music and love the sound of bells, come join us. We rehearse at noon on Thursdays for one hour from September through May.

Orff, of Course
Children in grades 2 to 6 make up this group. We rehearse on Tuesday afternoons from 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.. We have a full set of Orff instruments and participate regularly in worship. Come play a xylophone, a metallophone, a glockenspiel, or many other instruments. We love song and rhythm! We play musical games, sing, and play Orff!

kindermusik

Kindermusik® classes are now being offered at Christ Lutheran Church to families with children ages newborn to 7 years old. Dr. Laurence Furr is a licensed Kindermusik® educator and has taught this program for many years. If you are a member of Christ Lutheran, the classes are free! Call Laurence at the church for details.

Percussion and Solo Instruments
We value the inclusion of all kinds of acoustical instruments. Please call Laurence at the church and join a small percussion group. If you play a solo instrument, we want you to participate!

Summer Choir
Summer is a time for relaxing and vacation. We have a small group which meets 30 minutes before Sunday worship to learn sight-singing and to sing a few anthems throughout this time. Please join us!

Summer Music Camps
Summer Kindermusik® Camps and Orff Camps are offered for children and families of all ages. Watch for details!

Instruments at Christ Lutheran Church

Sanctuary Pipe Organ

organ

The Robert V. Henderson organ at Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach has its beginnings as a 1966 Reuter Organ of 3 Manuals and 31 Ranks. In 1977, Justin Kramer added an additional 4 ranks to the Great, Positiv and Pedal divisions. In 1994, L.W. Blackinton and Associates provided the instrument with a new terraced console and MIDI equipment. The instrument now totals 35 Ranks of possibilities with almost unlimited MIDI capabilities.

Sanctuary Piano

The Rieger-Kloss piano in the sanctuary was purchased in June 2001. It is a studio grand piano (6’1”) made by the Bohemia Piano Company in Jihlava, Czech Republic. This piano is made of Honduras mahogany with a high polish. It contains Renner action and has a lovely tone.

Handbells

Christ Lutheran Church owns a 5-octave set of Verdin/Malmark handbells. They have recently been tuned and regulated and polished to a beautiful silvery sheen.

Orff Instruments

In the fall of 2008 a full spectrum of Orff instruments was purchased including bass, alto-tenor, and soprano xylophones and metallophones, and soprano and alto glockenspiels, as well as several other percussion instruments. These instruments are played by children in worship and have accompanied songs and chants.
